Mallakhamb – 12th Century Pole Fitness!
Despite the disapproval of modern day puritans, moralists in both the 'moral majority' and 'political correctness' camps, pole fitness has actually been in existence for over 800 years and is an amazing form of exercise and fitness.
Mallakhamb is an ancient form of pole exercise from India dating back over 800 years with many moves looking very similar to pole dancing today and requiring amazing energy and stamina. This fitness routine is part of a wrestler’s training regime and is male dominated and makes use of a wooden upright pole! Today, 14 states in India compete in national mallakhamb championships that requires and extreme level of fitness gained through pole exercise and fitness.
